Melina for Zalando: DIY flower crown

Ich bin ganz aus dem Häuschen, weil ich euch DAS hier endlich zeigen kann! Meine Zusammenarbeit mit Zalando ist für mich wirklich was ganz Besonderes, weil ich ein Fan erster Stunde bin. Um mein perfektes Festivaloutfit zusammenzustellen war Zalando meine erste Anlaufstelle. Ich konnte mich kaum entscheiden und zeige euch heute also zwei Looks, die ihr natürlich online bei Zalando auch inden könnt. Hier gibt es einen einen tollen Festival-Guide für 2015!

Heute zeige ich euch also - in Kooperation mit Zalando- wie man einen Blumenkranz wie den, den ich auf dem Holi Festival getragen habe, selbst macht. Es ist mein erstes DIY-Projekt (aber sicher nicht das Letzte) und ich muss wirklich sagen, dass es nicht so schwer ist, wie ich es mir anfangs vorgestellt habe. Also los gehts:

Schritt 1: Ich habe einen der langen Blumenstiele genommen und diesen zu einem Kranz geformt. Alternativ kann man auch den Draht zu einem Kranz formen, der am Ende entweder sofort geschlossen oder noch offen gelassen wird. Der Kranz muss um den Kopf herum passen. Plant ein bisschen mehr Luft ein, da die Blumen noch Volumen wegnehmen werden. Der Kranz kann rundherum mit Blumen zusammengestellt werden oder -wie bei mir- nur hälftig um nicht zu wuchtig zu wirken. Schneide anschließend die langen Blumenstiele ab und lasst nur ein 10-cm Stück dran, das man gut im Kranz verarbeiten kann.

Schritt 2: Ich habe an der Seite begonnen und dort die Blumen nach einander in den Kranz gearbeitet. Ich habe jede Blume mit dem Draht um den Kranz gewickelt und- je nach Belieben- die Blumen auch gegen den Strom festgemacht um ggf. Löcher etwas aufzufüllen. Man muss darauf achten, dass die losen Enden des Drahtes gut versteckt sind und nicht später den Kopf pieksen :-)

Schritt 3: Man muss also so lange fortfahren mit dem Umwickeln, bis man die richtige Kranzgröße erreicht hat. Wenn man -wie ich- den Kranz nur hälftig umwickeln möchte, gibt es noch Schritt 4. Ansonsten macht man weiter, bis der Kranz so aufgefüllt ist, dass es stimmig aussieht.

Schritt 4: Schritt 4 ist bei mir noch notwenig gewesen, da die Enden des Kranzes noch schön versteckt werden mussten. ich habe also weißen dünnen Bast solange drumherumgewickelt, bis der gründe Draht nicht mehr sichtbar war. Ich habe am Ende noch eine kleine Schleife in die Mitte gesetzt :-) Fertig ist mein Blumenkranz!

You can find a festival-guide for 2015 here. And what better way to kickoff the excitement of festival season than styling an ethereal shoot complete with flower crowns? This was my first attempt at diy-ing floral head attire, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they really are quite easy to make. Today I´m showing you- step by step- how to create your own boho floral crown like the one I´ve worn at the Holi festival :-)

Step 1: Wrap the thick floral wire around your head to make a large circle for the wreath base. Make it really loose, when you start to add the flowers it will tighten up. Create a loop at the back end, leaving it loose so that you can take it in or out when you are finished adding the flowers.

Cut off the bottom stem of the flowers.

Step 2: Starting at the side, wrap the flower stems around your wire wreath circle. Work your way towards the front center. If you are using faux flowers, twist the wire inside of the flower stems around the wreath circle. Secure the flowers with the thin floral wire when needed. Make sure all of the wire ends face outwards and not in towards the center. You do not want these against your head when wearing the crown.

Step 3: Continue to add flowers, working your way from both back sides towards the center front. Add as many flowers to make as full or as simple as desired.

Step 4: But you’re not done yet, you’ll want to cover up those icky back wires for a clean finish. Start by wrapping bast fiber wire around the stems so that they are nice and tight with nothing poking out.

Wrap floral tape over the wire to create a nice smooth finish. You can leave as is or add lengths of bast fiber over the tape so they'll flow down the back.
